St Justin - Labradorite Celtic twist open bangle (pewter)St Justin - Labradorite Celtic twist open bangle (pewter)

Polished openwork pewter with central labradorite cabochon.

Labradorite is a sodium-rich variety of plagioclase feldspar found in igneous or metamorphic rocks. Its beauty as a gemstone is mainly because of its metallic lustre which is caused by internal reflection from fine layers of crystals and also by the inclusion of impurities such as magnetite. At first glance it appears grey but flashes of blue, green, gold, red and purple can be seen when the gemstone is moved through different angles. The iridescent colours in labradorite have been compared to the wings of tropical butterflies.
