St Justin - Welsh dragon engraved photo frame key-ring (pewter)St Justin - Welsh dragon engraved photo frame key-ring (pewter)

Brushed nickel-plated, hinged fob with satin finish and engraved Welsh dragon opens to reveal space for two photos.

The official emblem of Wales, the red dragon (y ddraigg goch), although perhaps of Chinese origin, was introduced to Britain by the Romans some 1800 years ago. Initially a military standard, over time this mythical beast developed into the flag of the nation. Henry VII claimed descent fron Cadwaladar, the great Welsh king, traditionally called the last king of Britain whose dragon symbol, redolent of bravery and fierceness, had been taken up by later Welsh princes.

St Justin - Nouveau triscele leather key-fob (pewter)St Justin - Nouveau triscele leather key-fob (pewter)

Black leather key-fob with embossed pewter Celtic design.

The triscele is commonly found in late Celtic art and is thought to have some Roman influence, although fine examples are found in the native art of Ireland and Scotland. It is thought to represent the three realms of Celtic lore: the past, the present and the future. One of the most popular of Ancient Celtic designs, it survived well into the Christian period, probably because it could also be considered to represent the Holy Trinity.

Nickel-plated hinged heart-shaped fob engraved with a Celtic knot. Opens to reveal space for two photos.

Hearts represent love in all its many aspects and they are also seen as symbolising having heart, the power of courage and will. To the ancient Egyptians it was the heart, rather than the brain, which was seen as the organ that held the person's mind and soul. Heart knots are a rather recent addition to Celtic symbolism. Hearts as symbols of love date from the later medieval period but became an established part of the Celtic repertoire in the last decade of the 20th century.

St Justin - Cornish penny on leather key-fob (cornish tin)St Justin - Cornish penny on leather key-fob (cornish tin)

Cornish tin penny (replica) mounted on a black leather fob with round split key-ring. Features a pumping engine with the year 1811 on the front and a pilchard with tin ingots and the wording 'For the accommodation of the county ' on the reverse.

Cornish pennies were trade tokens. They were introduced and used when there was an inadequate supply of official small denomination coins. Tokens are privately produced substitutes for official coins. They were produced in Britain from the reign of Elizabeth I to that of George III, by companies or individuals, often large scale employers, to provide change. They reached their peak near the end of the 19th century. Monarchs usually held a monopoly on the minting and issuing of coins. This was normally a profitable activity, but the production cost of small coins often made them unprofitable to produce. Because of this, many monarchs neglected to produce sufficient quantities of low denomination coins to meet demand. This caused considerable inconvenience to, and unrest within, the poorer classes. It was not only monarchs, but also governments who failed to provide sufficient small coins for change.

St Justin - One and all on leather key-fob (cornish tin)St Justin - One and all on leather key-fob (cornish tin)

Cornish tin rectangle depicting the Duchy of Cornwall's coat of arms and including the Cornish motto "one and all" (onen hag oll) mounted on a black leather fob with round split key-ring.

The coat of arms of the Duke of Cornwall is a Crusader shield on which are displayed 15 golden bezants in the shape of a triangle with the motto One and All. The story of the 15 bezants occurred during the Crusades when the Duke of Cornwall was captured by the Saracens. A ransom of 15 bezants (bezants being gold coins named after Byzantium) was demanded. The people of Cornwall raised the money for the ransom. It was paid and the Duke was set free. The inhabitants had all helped together, one and all, to raise the money - hence the motto.
