St Justin - Hairslides (19)
St Justin - NEW Staffordshire Hoard inspired hair-slide (bronze)
Bronze hair-slide with embossed zoomorphic design and rosewood pin. Design inspired by a gold sword hilt found amongst the Staffordshire Hoard.
The rosewood pin on the back holds the hair tightly to prevent the hairslide from slipping out. Hairslides with a wooden pin require a thicker mass of hair to be effective but once pushed in remain very secure.
On the 5th July, 2009, whilst metal-detecting on farmland in southern Staffordshire, Terry Herbert began to unearth the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon treasure ever found. Comprising over 1500 items in gold, silver and other alloys and valued at £3.3 million, the collection is thought to date back to the late 7th and early 8th centuries. St Justin has recreated history by producing items inspired by this amazing find.

St Justin - Celtic knot dolphin hairslide - rosewood pin (pewter)

In Celtic mythology dolphins were attributed with healing pwers and the image of people riding on their backs can still be found on some Celtic artefacts. Celtic seafarers, in particular, held dolphins in high regard and they became symbols of good luck, possibly because they were commonly seen during fair weather when the seas were calm. To the Celts, dolphins also represented rebirth, intelligence and friendship.

The manuscript's main text, which was written out by a single scribe, is a Latin version of the Four Gospels known as Saint Jerome's Vulgate. This is a revision of the Latin Bible made in the late fourth century CE and widely used throughout the western world.
