From this came the St Piran flag which is the white cross on the black background that you can see all over Cornwall today. St Piran's day is celebrated annually on 5 March.

St Justin - Welsh dragon cufflinks (silver)St Justin - Welsh dragon cufflinks (silver)

Solid sterling silver with Welsh dragon in relief.

The official emblem of Wales, the red dragon (y ddraigg goch), although perhaps of Chinese origin, was introduced to Britain by the Romans some 1800 years ago. Initially a military standard, over time this mythical beast developed into the flag of the nation. Henry VII claimed descent fron Cadwaladar, the great Welsh king, traditionally called the last king of Britain whose dragon symbol, redolent of bravery and fierceness, had been taken up by later Welsh princes.

St Justin - Pasty cufflinks -T-bar (cornish tin)St Justin - Pasty cufflinks -T-bar (cornish tin)

Cornish tin pasty cufflinks with nickel-plated T-bar findings.

The Cornish pasty is a simple and delicious pastry turnover filled with chopped meat, potatoes and vegetables and crimped around the edge. It had its origin in Cornwall, where it served both as meal and lunch box for workers heading off to the mines. Cornish tin mines contained arsenic, and it was an advantage to the miner that they could hold the pasty by the convenient 'handle' that it provides to the eater. They would be able to eat the inside and discard the crust when they were finished. The discarded crust was also said to keep the Cornish pixies happy! Some wives even filled one corner of the pasty with jam or fruit so that it provided both main course and dessert, then marked it with her husband's initials so that the miners would know whose pasty was whose!

Cornish tin, cold enamelled cufflinks depicting the Duchy of Cornwall's coat of arms and including the Cornish motto onen hag oll (one and all). Nickel-plated T-bars.

The coat of arms of the Duke of Cornwall is a Crusader shield on which are displayed 15 golden bezants in the shape of a triangle with the motto One and All. The story of the 15 bezants occurred during the Crusades when the Duke of Cornwall was captured by the Saracens. A ransom of 15 bezants (bezants being gold coins named after Byzantium) was demanded. The people of Cornwall raised the money for the ransom. It was paid and the Duke was set free. The inhabitants had all helped together, one and all, to raise the money - hence the motto.

St Justin - Triangular knot cross chain - amber (pewter)St Justin - Triangular knot cross chain - amber (pewter)

Pewter with embossed Celtic cross design and amber cabochon. Palladium-plated brass chain.

The Celtic cross symbolises the bridge to higher energies and planes of existence. It represents the relationship between the celestial realm (vertical axis) and the earthly plane (horizontal axis). The circle around the cross symbolises both the Great Wheel of Life and the solar energy. The tall shafts, like the ancient menhirs and the inscribed stones of the dark ages, represent the union between the earth and spirit, the stones firmly fixed in the earth and reaching upwards to the heavens. In this way it can be seen that Celts easily adapted their ancient religious beliefs to the new ones introduced by Christianity.
